Guards + balustrades
Clear guards with structure, edges, and movement resolved.
A glass guard is a life-safety assembly and a close-range architectural finish. Loads, glass makeup, post or shoe strategy, substrate reinforcement, waterproofing, drainage, handrails, exposed edges, tolerances and inspections must be coordinated before fabrication.

Technology partner
Aestech technology with US delivery coordinated by OWL TOWER GROUP. Engineering, approvals, and responsibilities are defined for each project; regulated specialty work is assigned to appropriately licensed trade contractors.

Start with the load path
The support condition is established with the project engineer and system requirements before finishes conceal the attachment zone. Wood, steel and concrete substrates each require a clear reinforcement and tolerance strategy.
- Guard-load and glass-makeup review
- Base shoe, post or stand-off options
- Substrate and edge coordination
- Required professional and permit path
Protect exterior interfaces
Balcony and terrace guards cross waterproofing, paving, drainage and edge-metal conditions. Penetrations, curbs, shoes and covers are detailed so the guard and envelope do not undermine one another.
- Waterproofing continuity
- Drainage and cleaning access
- Dissimilar-metal and finish review
- Movement and sealant joints
Control the visible finish
Glass alignment, top edges, handrails, joints, hardware finishes, caps, transitions and protection are reviewed at close range, then documented through punch and turnover.
- Alignment and joint consistency
- Polished-edge quality
- Handrail and termination details
- Protection through closeout
Frequently asked
Answers before measuring, fabricating, or building.
Does a glass railing need engineering?
Many guard conditions require structural design, calculations or delegated engineering. The requirement depends on the system, substrate, location, geometry and authority having jurisdiction.
Can glass railings be frameless?
Yes, when an engineered base shoe, stand-off or other support system satisfies loads, edge, movement, waterproofing and inspection requirements.
Tempered or laminated glass?
The required safety-glass makeup depends on the guard configuration and applicable code. The project team confirms the specification before fabrication.
Can you replace an existing balcony railing?
Potentially. We first review the existing substrate, waterproofing, edge conditions, dimensions, access and approval path.
